When doctoral student Ranjani Srinivasan's visa was revoked by the US State Department, she became one of the first cases in America of an individual using the newly launched self-deportation feature on the CBP Home App. With this step, Srinivasan bypassed formal deportation methods and chose to self-deport with the use of the CBP Home App on March 11, 2025. Kristi Noem’s statement on CBP Home App Announcing the app’s launch, Secretary Kristi Noem criticized the Biden Administration’s handling of immigration, stating that the CBP One app had been exploited to facilitate illegal entry into the US for over a million individuals. "The CBP Home app gives aliens the option to leave now and self-deport, so they may still have the opportunity to return legally in the future and live the American dream.
