Rajya Sabha, Lok Sabha fail to function amid BJP-Congress tussle
The HinduThe Rajya Sabha failed to function on Wednesday with uproar from Treasury and Opposition benches over the no-confidence notice against House Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, while the Lok Sabha witnessed repeated adjournments and sparring after getting off to a smooth start following a meeting between Speaker Om Birla and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi. In the Rajya Sabha, Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju defended the Chairman and criticised the Opposition for the notice, with Mr. Nadda too accusing the Congress of colluding with Mr. Soros to “destablise” the country. Addressing the press conference of the Indian National Developmental, Inclusive Alliance, Congress president and Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge alleged that Mr. Dhankhar was working as a “government spokesperson” and acting like a “school headmaster”. When it reassembled, Leader of the House Mr. Nadda alleged the Opposition’s no-confidence notice against Mr. Dhankhar was a diversionary tactic after “ties between the top Congress leadership and Soros” emerged.
