The HinduUnion Minister for Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia has “responded positively” to a request to upgrade the Pudukottai Railway Mail Service, according to Durai Vaiko, Member of Parliament. Mr. Durai Vaiko, who represents the Tiruchi Lok Sabha Constituency, met the Union Minister to present a memorandum pleading against the closure of the RMS and demanding its upgradation as an ‘intra-circle hub.’ The representation, signed by Rajya Sabha member Vaiko, said Pudukottai RMS had been operational for 100 years and manages over 20,000 ordinary mails, more than 2,500 registered mails and 250 speed parcel bags every day. The mail that is booked after 6 p.m. will have to travel to Tiruchi, nullifying the benefits of night-time booking at the Pudukottai RMS, he said and sought the creation of an intra-circle hub at Pudukottai RMS, considering the fact that it was a district headquarters. Speaking to The Hindu over telephone, Mr.Durai Vaiko said that the Minister responded positively and had assured to take care of the request.
