How MP's Bagheera app will deter safari vehicles from 'cornering' tigers
India TodayThe outcry over a tigress and her five cubs recently being cornered by tourist-laden safari vehicles in Maharashtra’s Umred Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary has prompted the Madhya Pradesh forest department to roll out a new feature in its tourism safari app that will now help report such incidents in the state’s reserves. After the early January incident in Umred Karhandla made it to social media, the Maharashtra forest department suspended four drivers and guides and imposed fines on them. The Madhya Pradesh forest department has been using the Bagheera app to monitor the speed of safari vehicles inside reserves, and whether these were sticking to designated routes or stopping unusually. The android app is installed on forest department mobile phones given to safari vehicle drivers while entering the state’s tiger reserves.
