Australian fires: Celebrity, business and sportspeople donations hit great height for charity and bushfire relief
ABCThe Australian bushfires have caused devastation across the nation due to both their ferocity and sheer scale but they've also brought out the best in people around the world, with many digging deep to help those affected. Donations for bushfire relief are approaching the $200 million mark after mining magnate Andrew Forrest announced he was tipping in $70 million in donations for bushfire relief from his Mindaroo Foundation. Things kicked off for Australian sportspeople when tennis star Nick Kyrgios kicked things off by announcing he would personally donate $200 for every ace he hits across the summer as he got emotional talking about the bushfires. His social media post caught the attention of plenty in the sporting world as recently as Tuesday when now-retired German NBA star Dirk Nowitzki said he would contribute. Cricket too is doing its part with big hitters Chris Lynn and Glenn Maxwell among others promising $250 per maximum they hit in the Big Bash and Peter Siddle, Adam Zampa and Kane Richardson have all said they would donate $200 for every wicket they take.
