Smart home cameras are increasingly becoming an ubiquitous part of our lives, helping us keep our property safe. A new study has highlighted a growing concern: that smart home camera may be gathering far more personal data than you think. On average, these apps collect 12 data points, including sensitive information such as email addresses, phone numbers, payment details and precise location data—50% more than other smart home devices typically gather. At the same time, indoor security camera apps are also a cause for concern even though they tend to collect slightly less data—an average of nine data points.
