Town cancels Remembrance Day parade over health and safety fears

A remembrance day parade has been cancelled over health and safety concerns. Barry Town Council in Wales said the event was scrapped because of the Royal British Legion policy that local authorities have to take on extra responsibilities to host parades. Cllr Bronwen Brooks, the leader of Barry Town Council, said it was “committed to providing a Remembrance Service for the people of Barry and honouring those who gave their lives for us and our freedom. “We have worked with the Royal British Legion for many years to create a lovely service and will continue to do so, where we are able.” She added that the council was “saddened” to have to cancel the parade but that the health and safety considerations remained “unresolved” and that the safety of pedestrians and veterans had to be prioritised. Mr Davies said: “Barry Town Council has cancelled this year’s Remembrance Sunday parade.
