Victorians brace for catastrophic fire conditions
ABCGood morning, welcome to AM. Rachel Mealey: A total fire ban is in place across Victoria as authorities warn today's fire danger across the state will be the worst since the Black Summer bushfires of five years ago. Many residents around the Grampians National Park in the state's west spent Christmas Day away from their homes under evacuation orders and today fire crews are bracing for conditions to deteriorate. Lexie Jeuniewic: Yes, so several districts in South Australia are under extreme fire danger warnings today with total fire bans in place for several regions including the Murraylands and Mid North and much like Victoria, Rachel, it's that combination of high heat and windy conditions which really have fire crews concerned. Alison Xiao: Another resident says she's worried about friends in the north-eastern city of Kharkiv, where authorities say Russia has been launching missiles at energy infrastructure, injuring at least six people on Christmas Day.
