Road to healthcare for the disabled paved with no intentions
The HinduThe lack of insurance coverage for people with disabilities in India, has ensured that for most members of the community, a high out-of-pocket expenditure for health, is the norm. Disability rights activists and persons with disabilities have noted that whether it is private, government insurance or government schemes, the road to access healthcare has been difficult. Coverage under PM-JAY Recently, the National Disability Network, a group of organisations and federations of persons with disabilities, approached the Union government seeking inclusion of persons with disabilities without any income as well as age criteria in the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana health insurance scheme. “A lack of health coverage significantly affects persons with disabilities, especially due to the high cost associated with living with a disability.
