Reliance AGM: Google and Jio join hands to create new Android-based OS for JioPhone

Google and Jio on Wednesday said that they would be working together to create new software that could power the next-generation Jio phones with an operating system that is smarter than what users get on JioPhone and JioPhone 2. This software, said Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, would help users move away from feature phones and would help Jio create phones that utilise 4G and 5G something that Jio plans to bring in a year or so better and deliver richer services. Google CEO Sundar Pichai, who addressed the Reliance AGM through video conferencing, said the Jio partnership would help Google reach more users in India, where millions of people continue to use feature phones. "Google and Jio Platforms have entered into a commercial agreement to jointly develop an entry-level affordable smartphone with optimizations to the Android operating system and the Play Store.
