Maskot via Getty Images Both chronic anxiety and new anxiety increased risk of dementia in a new study. The study found that people with chronic anxiety were 2.8 times more likely to develop dementia, and those with new onset anxiety were 3.2 times more likely, than people who did not report those conditions. It’s estimated that 301 million people in the world experience anxiety, while 55 million people are estimated to have dementia ― with that number expected to grow in the future. “The same way anxiety is something that can be developed over time certain things can exacerbate it, there are certain coping skills that are going to work better for certain moments,” Muldrew said.
