Except Bengaluru, all urban local bodies in Karnataka received less than 1% of budget allocation
The HinduG. B. Jyothi Ganesh said that, except Bengaluru city, all other 315 urban local bodies have been allocated less than 1% of the State budget and that urban centres have been facing infrastructure bottlenecks, such as bad roads, drinking water crisis and silt-filled storm water drains. Citing problems in disposal of solid waste in the Tumakuru City Corporation, Mr. Ganesh urged the government to set up solid waste treatment plants in cities. N.H. Konaraddi, representing Navalgund seat in Dharwad district, urged the government of Karnataka to take a delegation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to expedite the pending clearances for various irrigation projects. Instead of giving ₹2,000 per month to women belonging to the BPL families under the Bhagya Lakshmi scheme, she urged the government to provide subsidised loans to women to set up enterprises to become self-employed.
