Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly passes resolution for interim provinicial status for region
India TodayGilgit Baltistan Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed a resolution demanding interim provincial status for the region. Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf -led government has demanded from the federal government that Gilgit-Baltistan should be allocated seats in the National Assembly, Senate and representation in federal institutions. According to reports, the Chief Minister was joined in tabling the resolution by Opposition leader Amjad Hussain from Pakistan Peoples'' Party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz representative Ghulam Muhammad, Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen member Muhammad Kazim and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl leader Rehmat Khaliq. “The Government of India firmly rejects the attempt by Pakistan to bring material changes to a part of Indian territory, under its illegal and forcible occupation.
