Budget 22-23 reflects growing debt burden

HYDERABAD: Telangana's debt burden continues to rise and reached the threshold of 25 per cent of GSDP against 22 per cent earlier as per the budget presented in the Legislative Assembly on Monday. The debt burden increased to Rs 3.29 lakh crore from Rs 2.85 lakh crore last year as per Budget estimates. The overall debt burden of state government now stands at Rs 3,29,988 crore, of which market borrowings comprise Rs 2,89,873 crore, loans from Central government Rs 7,188 crore, loans from autonomous bodies Rs 13,591 crore, special securities and provident fund etc Rs 19,336 crore. In the 2020-21 budget, the total debt burden was estimated at Rs 2,44,019 crore which has now been revised to Rs 2,85,120 crore.
