The pending road works in Thoothukudi city will be sanctioned by April, and relaying and restoration of all the roads within the corporation limits will be completed by June, said Thoothukudi Municipal Corporation Mayor Jegan Periyasamy at the weekly grievances redressal meeting held at the East Zone office on Wednesday. In the presence of Thoothukudi Corporation Commissioner L. Madhubalan, the Mayor announced that the Ashe Memorial in Thoothukudi will be converted into a senior citizen’s park. He further mentioned that the Corporation was also planning to develop a pedestrian pathway and artificial fountain around the tank of Sankara Rameswarar Temple in Thoothukudi, with work on the project set to commence soon. Highlighting the well received senior citizens park, “Aayiram Pirai Poonga” in the north zone, he said, “Following the public requests for senior citizen park, the corporation has decided to convert the Ashe Memorial Hall, located opposite the old port into a another dedicated spot for senior citizens.” Mr. Jegan emphasised the conversion of vacant lands within the municipal corporation limits into sports grounds as per their suitability.
