Budget 2020 | We wanted to make sure money is in people’s hands: Nirmala Sitharaman

At the post-Budget press conference, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman exuded confidence in being able to reduce the fiscal deficit via increased revenue generation. We wanted to be sure that money is in the hands of the people, by not paying a tax which they don't need to pay. In the last three months itself, the GST collection has crossed ₹1 lakh crore, and there will be incentives because of the corporate tax rate cut. So I guess revenue generation improvement will give me that little comfort so that I can come down from 3.8% to 3.5% in the next fiscal, with the disinvestment also going to be effective.
