Will behead myself if I make mistakes: Karnataka HC judge slams charges by advocates
India TodayJustice B Veerappa, a judge at the Karnataka High Court spoke in an event on Friday and said, “I am ready to stand in front of the Vidhana Soudha and the high court and behead myself if I make a mistake, that is the spirit with which I work as a judge.” His statement comes after reports emerged of advocates allegedly casting aspersions on high court judges and levelling them with ‘baseless’ allegations during court proceedings. Vivek Subba Reddy, the president of the AAB reacted to Veerappa’s statement and said, “There is no greater issue for a judge than when their integrity is questioned, especially in an environment when keeping integrity itself has become difficult.” Subba Reddy said Veerappa was reacting to statements made by an advocate and that such rash and erratic statements like the advocate’s can affect people’s faith in the institution. According to sources, Justice Veerappa further said the advocates’ association should come to the rescue of the judiciary when members of the bar make unfounded allegations against the judges. Speaking on Justice Veerappa’s Sudarshana Chakra remark, Subba Reddy said, “It is a very rare circumstance that an advocate makes such allegations questioning the integrity of the judge.
