Demand for swift government action on complaints of online abuse
The HinduWomen who raise their voices face 1,000 times more opposition on social media than what they experience from their family and society, a National Women Journalists Conclave in the State capital on Wednesday observed. At a session on ‘Women in social media’ on Wednesday, the last day of the conclave organised by the State government’s Information and Public Relations department in association with the Kerala Union of Working Journalists, it was observed that social media was a representative cross-section of society. If social media was believed to be a democratic space initially, organised attacks were turning it into the opposite, Truecopy online magazine editor Manila C. Mohan said. Even women’s bodies were targeted on social media, 24 News associate editor Smitha Haridas said.
