NSW teachers vote for December strike over pay and staff shortages
ABCPublic school teachers across New South Wales have voted to go on strike next month over pay and staff shortages. Hunter teacher Natalie Hudson said students saw teachers "run ragged", which turned them off considering a career in teaching. "The Perrottet government doesn't seem to care that the shortages are so bad that one in five teachers are teaching outside their subject area," Mr Gavrielatos said. They won't budge from a one-size-fits-all 2.5 per cent wage cap despite their own department's warning that teacher shortages exist because other careers pay more competitive salaries." Premier Dominic Perrottet said he had already made it "very clear" to the Teachers Federation that the government's position remains that public servants in NSW get a 2.5 per cent pay increase.
