Cash recoveries from liquor traders: BJP demands resignation of Odisha CM

Deccan Chronicle

BHUBANESWAR: The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday demanded the resignation of Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik over the recent seizure of Rs 351 crore cash from liquor traders in the state by the Income Tax department. Demanding a clarification from the Biju Janata Dal, Odisha BJP state unit president Manmohan Samal said the BJD must clarify the ownership of the seized cash. The BJP state chief observed he “strongly” suspected that the cash belonged to the BJD and it would have been used in the next elections to influence the voters. “Had the Economic Offence Wing of the Crime Branch and the state vigilance department acted and caught these liquor traders, Income Tax raids would not have been required,” quipped.
