Marshals will be there to ensure customers wear masks correctly, as well as follow the wider, stricter government coronavirus guidelines. They will also be installed in the aisles of larger Asda stores, and are expected to be able to help shoppers with safety questions and to reiterate government guidelines. "These additional measures will make our stores an even safer place to shop and work during the coming months," Anthony Hemmerdinger, chief operating officer at Asda, says. Despite scenes at some stores, supermarket giants Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury's, Lidl and Aldi said they had "good availability" on Monday and have not experienced any shortages yet.
