HC seeks Kerala’s response on selection of AIIMS site in Kozhikode
A Division Bench of the Kerala High Court on Tuesday directed the State government to file an affidavit stating whether it has followed the Central government’s norms while selecting the site at Kinaloor in Kozhikode district for the proposed establishment of All India Institute of Medical Sciences. The Bench comprising Chief Justice Nitin Jamdar and Justice S. Manu issued a directive when a writ petition filed by AIIMS Kasaragod Janakeeya Koottayma seeking to establish the institute at Kasaragod came up for hearing. The court observed that the State government should be mindful of the fact that selection should be in conformity with the guidelines issued by the Centre for the selection and establishment of higher education institutions lest the same would be rejected or sent for reconsideration on ground of not following the guidelines. It was emphasised that the selection of a proper site is a multi-criteria decision making process which would bring maximum benefits to the community.
