After last year’s ‘Elgar Parishad’, Bhim Army planning ‘Mahasabha’ to mark Bhima Koregaon anniversary
Op IndiaTo mark the upcoming Bhima Koregaon battle’s 201st anniversary on January 1, the Dalit organisation Bhim Army has announced that its founder Chandrashekhar Azad alias Ravan would address a rally in Pune. Last year the Dalit groups had organised ‘Elgaar Parishad’ on December 31 at Shaniwarwada in Pune to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Bhima Koregaon battle. Gujarat MLA and controversial Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani, JNU’s leftist leader Umar Khalid, Bharipa Bahujan Mahasangh leader Prakash Ambedkar, and Bhim Army’s Vinay Ratan Singh were among the speakers there. On June 6, Pune police arrested five supposed top urban Maoist operatives, namely, Delhi based activist Rona Wilson, advocate Surendra Gadling, professor Shoma Sen and Mahesh Raut from Nagpur and Mumbai’s Sudhir Dhavle.
