Sharks’ Tomas Hertl’s long-term future, William Eklund’s short-term future both hazy

New York Times

BOSTON — Before the Sharks’ season opener a little more than a week ago, there was a growing feeling that center Tomas Hertl was about to begin his final season in teal. “I think we’ve got really good young guys who stepped up and showed could play,” he said. “For us, it will be a team effort all season long because we don’t have skill like Toronto and other teams.” He continued: “For sure, the locker room so much energy. So, it’s really nice to see.” While Hertl’s long-term future with the Sharks remains hazy, in the short term, coach Bob Boughner is seeking effective linemates for the 27-year-old. “I’ve never done it before,” Eklund said about playing NHL games on consecutive nights.
