The child was kidnapped from Uttar Pradesh's Gonda district on Friday, and was rescued after a joint operation of the Special Task Force and the Uttar Pradesh Police in the wee hours of Saturday. During the investigation, the police also recovered an audio clip in which one of the kidnappers was heard demanding a ransom of Rs 4 crore, while citing the Vikas Dubey case. On Saturday morning, the STF and the police, in a joint operation, rescued the child and arrested five kidnappers following an encounter in Gonda. In the audio, Chhavi Pandey, while citing the Vikas Dubey case and saying how the police department works, is heard saying: "Your boy is kidnapped, arrange Rs 4 crore.
