Citizens concerned as pollution level hits the 500-mark in Agra

India Today

Lockdown had been announced at the Taj Mahal way earlier than the actual nationwide lockdown was announced by the central government due to the Covid-19 pandemic in March this year. After a few months of ‘Unlock’, the Taj Mahal is again surrounded by clouds of dust and poisonous gases due to construction work being done barely 500 metres away from the monument. Agra Tourist Welfare Chamber secretary Vishal Sharma said that the dust clouds are due to the Smart City work being done around the Taj Mahal, and the administration has not taken any precautions to ensure that the dust does not rise in the air during construction activity. He said that the nine municipal wards around the Taj Mahal are witnessing intense developmental activity under the Smart City project, with pipelines and sewer lines being laid, and roads being constructed.
