Carolina Hurricanes are No. 13 in 2024 NHL prospect pool rankings
New York TimesWelcome to Scott Wheeler’s 2024 rankings of every NHL organization’s prospects. Scott Morrow, RHD, 21 One of the most productive freshman defensemen in college hockey two seasons ago, the Minutemen’s leading scorer as a sophomore last year, and a point per game defenseman as a junior while, most importantly, playing better defensively in huge minutes, Morrow is a real talent who made the jump from high school hockey directly into the NCAA look easy from a skill standpoint. Jayden Perron, RW, 18 One of the USHL’s most talented and intelligent offensive players a year ago in his draft year, Perron got off to a hot start, was briefly halted by an eight-game December stretch that saw him register just one assist, and then really turned it back on to play his best hockey down the stretch. Felix Unger-Sorum, RW, 18 One third of Sweden’s standout 2005 line at U18 and U20 worlds and the third-most productive under-18 player at the J20 level last season, Unger-Sorum, the youngest player in last year’s draft, was born on the second-to-last day of eligibility for 2023 and has found a way to be productive in a depth role in the SHL this season. Gleb Trikozov, LW/RW, 19 After scoring 33 goals and 63 points in 48 combined MHL regular-season and playoff games as a 17-year-old with an August birthday in his draft year, Trikozov has bounced between the MHL and Russia’s second-tier VHL over the last two seasons, and now produces at a dominant rate when he’s playing with his peers and a respectable one against men.
