Centre plans to introduce 'cashless treatment' of accident victims across India

Road accidents in India: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways plans to roll out the facility of cashless medical treatment of road accident victims across the country in three to four months, a top government official said today. Road Transport and Highways Secretary Anurag Jain while inaugurating an event organised by the Institute of Road Traffic Education noted India has the highest number of road accident deaths in the world. Golden hour medical treatment: "Such cashless treatment shall be extended to road accident victims including during golden hour, as defined by the MV Amendment Act," he added. According to the 'Accidental Deaths and Suicides in India 2022' report, Delhi accounted for the highest number of road accidents in the country- 5,387- and recorded 1,412 deaths due to fatal road accidents.
