The team, led by investigator Gavin de Becker, believed that Michael Sanchez – the brother of Mr Bezos’s girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez – gave the texts to the tabloid, several media reports have suggested. Last week, Mr Bezos made headlines around the world when he claimed in a blogpost that the Enquirer had threatened to publish explicit photographs of him unless he issued a public statement reversing claims by Mr de Becker that the magazine’s reporting of his private life was politically motivated. Over the weekend, Mr Sanchez told Fox News: “Everything that Gavin has advised Jeff to do has only amplified the magnitude of the scandal.” A lawyer for AMI, Elkan Abramowitz, declined to name who provided the texts but told ABC News it was a reliable source, well-known to Mr Bezos and Ms Sanchez.
