Dave Smithson, of the charity Anxiety UK, warns that someone with HFA can be full of self doubt and find themselves constantly looking for perfection in everything they do Dave Smithson, of Anxiety UK, says it is 'a form of anxiety where the person living with the condition can find themselves constantly looking for perfection in everything they do'. HFA might be considered the anxiety equivalent of high-functioning alcoholism, where someone is dependent on drinking but still able to function effectively in large parts of their daily life. Mr Smithson advises that for any form of anxiety, what may seem like simple strategies can make a real difference, such as maintaining a healthy diet, limiting alcohol and caffeine intake, enjoying regular exercise and getting a good night's sleep. He says: 'For many of our members at Anxiety UK, talking therapies including counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and clinical hypnotherapy play a significant and valuable role in managing anxiety conditions.
