Working hours for labourers revised as temperature rises

The Hindu

The Labour Commissioner has issued an order rescheduling the work hours of labourers who work in the sun in the wake of a rise in maximum daytime temperature in the State. The workers will get a mid-day break from 12 noon to 3 p.m. till May 10 to prevent the possibility of sunstroke, the order issued on Tuesday said. In the event that the time period mentioned in the order has to be amended owing to local emergencies, a report should be submitted by the regional joint labour commissioner/chief inspector of plantations to Labour Commissioner Safna Naseeruddin. Three teams under the supervision of district labour officer, deputy labour officer, and assistant labour officer will conduct the inspections.
