Uber helicopter rides were 'a third CHEAPER than Uber Black rides from Manhattan to JFK'

A special promotion offered by Uber to 'a small, random set of riders' gave loyal customers the chance to take a helicopter ride to JFK that was cheaper than an Uber Black ride. Riders coming from Manhattan were able to take the eight-minute trip for $108.98, which was said to be a third lower than the Uber Black ride of $163.11. Riders coming from Manhattan were actually able to take the eight-minute trip for $108.98, which was said to be a third lower than the Uber Black ride of $163.11 Matt Wing, an Uber spokesman, shared that 'a small, random set of riders' were given the promotion. Although Uber claimed the service is intended to reduce travel time, when Reuters took a trip from its Midtown office to the airport it took 70 minutes, including a subway ride downtown and two Uber rides to and from the heliport -- similar to the travel time of taking regular taxi in moderate traffic.
