Condemning arrest of fishermen by Sri Lankan Navy, fishermen remain on shore in Rameswaram

Protesting arrest of eight fishermen on January 12, 2025, fishermen of Rameswaram and Mandapam remained on shore on Monday. Jesu Raja, a fishermen leader, said the arrest was happening again and again despite fishermen stick to the International Maritime Boundary Line. Several modern technologies like GPS and other tracking devices should be utilised to prevent fishermen from getting arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy personnel, he noted. Even after Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s visit to India, there seemed to be no change in the sorry state of fishermen. Speedy measures should be taken by State and Union government to release the fishermen and boats stuck in Sri Lankan government, Mr. Jesu Raja demanded.
