
Seer urges devotees to eschew animal sacrifice
The HinduSri Dayananda Swami of Vishwa Prani Kalyana Mandali has urged the devotees taking part in the Chikkallur Sri Siddappaji jatra in Chamarajanagar district, to eschew animal sacrifice and celebrate the event in a non-violent manner. The seer has already written to the Deputy Commissioner of Chamarajanagar and the Superintendent of Police of the district to strictly implement the provisions of the Karnataka Prevention of Animal Sacrifice Act, 1959, as also the orders of the High Court of Karnataka which prohibits animal sacrifices in public and places of worship. Ban issued He said consequent to his appeal to the district administration, a ban order has been issued and additional security will be deployed to prevent animal sacrifices. Dayananda Swami said the authorities should also crack down on such customs at Shimsha Maramma Devi temple, Manteswamy shrine at Kurubana Katte and other places.
