Bihar Cabinet likely to be expanded with four BJP Ministers after Makar Sankranti
The HinduThe Bihar Cabinet is likely to be expanded between January 15 and 30 after the end of Makar Sankranti, which is considered an inauspicious period by many, in view of the State Assembly elections due in October-November this year. The NDA government’s Cabinet was last expanded on March 15, 2024 when 21 Ministers — nine from Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal and 12 from ally Bharatiya Janata Party were inducted. Meanwhile, party sources said that some of the Ministers — both from the BJP and the JD — are likely to be dropped as well from the Cabinet due to their “poor performance”. “It’s an election year and we need not take any risk,” the sources said, adding that, “The party leadership is working on the proposal and for the BJP everything will be completed by January 15.” With the upcoming elections in mind, they further said that legislators from Saran, Tirhut and Patna divisions are likely to be considered for Cabinet positions as the BJP won a large number of seats from these divisions in the 2020 Assembly polls. Meanwhile, the process for BJP’s organisational election in Bihar is also likely to begin and the party’s state president Dilip Jaiswal would file his nomination to retain the post on January 18.
