Assam sojourn over, Manmohan Singh looks for a new home state
India TodayFor nearly three decades 28 years to be precise Manmohan Singh has represented Assam in the Rajya Sabha. The Election Commission has announced elections on June 7 to fill the two Rajya Sabha seats from Assam that will fall vacant on June 14, one of which is represented by Singh and the other by Santiuse Kujur, also a Congress member. The next Rajya Sabha election in Assam will happen next year when three more seats would fall vacant as Sanjay Singh and Bhubaneswar Kalita of Congress and Biswajeet Daimary of BPF will retire. If any of the Congress Rajya Sabha members from Madhya Pradesh Digvijaya Singh and Vivek Tankha win their Lok Sabha seats in 2019, the vacant seat can go to Manmohan Singh as Congress has the requisite numbers in Madhya Pradesh. If Kanimozhi wins from the Thoothukudi Lok Sabha constituency, her Rajya Sabha seat could be offered to Manmohan Singh though there is no official word on such an agreement.
