As world marks International Day of Sign Languages, what we should know

September 23 marks the International Day of Sign Languages - a day celebrated every year with the aim to spread awareness surrounding the development and preservation of sign languages to support the hearing-impaired community and others who use them as means to communicate. International Day Of Sign Languages: There are over 70 million deaf people in the world, and over 300 different sign languages are used by them. In 2017, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed September 23 as the official day to celebrate the International Day of Sign Languages. According to the WFD, there are over 70 million deaf people worldwide, and 300 different sign languages are used by them. The International Day of Sign Languages was first celebrated in 2018 as part of the International Week of the Deaf.
