Remembering ‘Mohna’: When ex-PM Manmohan Singh met his childhood friend from Pakistan

Live Mint

Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92 at Delhi's All India Institute of Medical Sciences after losing consciousness. Dr Manmohan Singh was born on September 26, 1932, in the small village of Gah, located in the Punjab region of undivided India, which is now part of Pakistan. When Dr Manmohan Singh assumed the office of Prime Minister of India in 2004, the news reached his village in Pakistan, rekindling his desire to reconnect with his old friend Ali. Before the partition, the two were very close, and Ali affectionately called Dr Manmohan Singh ‘Mohna’.
