'Gentle man in rough world of politics': Tributes pour in for Manmohan Singh
India TodayFormer Prime Minister Manmohan Singh died on Thursday, hours after being hospitalised at AIIMS, Delhi. President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, AAP leaders Atishi and Raghav Chadha were among leaders who expressed condolences. While PM Modi called Manmohan Singh one of India's "most distinguished leaders", Priyanka Gandhi described him as a "gentle man in the rough world of politics". Former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupender Singh Hooda remembered Manmohan Singh as a "great economist of the world" and said he took India forward through his work. "I am saddened by the news of the demise of former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, a great economist of the world, a pioneer of economic reforms in India and one who, through his work, took the country forward on the path of progress and gave it a distinct identity across the world," Hooda said in a tweet, adding that Singh's death is an irreparable loss which would be extremely difficult to compensate.
