Why you need to take your heart health seriously

According to a statement from the American Heart Association, the Heart Failure Society of America and the American College of Cardiology, patients taking common blood pressure medicines— angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors and angiotensin receptor blockers —who contract Covid-19 should continue treatment unless otherwise advised by their physician. Further people taking corticosteroids, oral birth control, immune-suppressants or mental health drugs should monitor their blood pressure during this time. Take it seriously “Proper treatment and control of blood pressure is important,” says Dr Passey. “If fever persists or oxygen saturation comes down, get immediate medical help,” says Dr Passey, adding, “Even if there is a single episode of blood pressure deviation, consult your doctor to adjust the medication according to the need.” And when taking any steroids, blood pressure has to be monitored even more closely.
