Taking quick naps while studying boosts focus and memory: Study reveals
India TodayWith the changing scenario of education in India, a constant change is being seen in the way education is imparted to students in many schools. Improper sleep causes the brain to seize proper functioning, affecting cognitive abilities and emotional state; it can also interfere with balance, coordination and decision-making abilities, and hence, would adversely affect the performance of a child in the long run. Instead, quick naps into a child's schedule during study hours would help them recall faster what they have studied, thus making the process easier. Research has shown that quick naps naturally balance hormones, improves alertness and boosts peak physical performance Naps in between study hours also helps in reducing anxiety and stress in children and results in increased sharpness This can also boost their brain performance, including improvements to problem solving, verbal memory, perceptual learning, object learning, and statistical learning Not only this, researches have also shown, that naps would help with math, logical reasoning, improve reaction times and symbol recognition Also, classroom naps boosts the learning capabilities of preschool children by enhancing the memories they acquired earlier in the day Further, alternating study sessions with sleep might be an easy and effective way to remember information over longer periods of time with less study Similarly, last month, IANS reported a research study which was based on similar grounds. Details of the hypothesis: The results suggest that interweaving sleep between practice sessions leads to a two-fold advantage, reducing the time spent relearning and ensuring a much better long-term retention than practice alone The research was initially done on 40 French adults who were randomly assigned to either a "sleep" group or a "wake" group In the first session, all participants were presented with 16 French-Swahili word pairs in random order So the next time you want your child to excel in all fields of life, make sure they sleep while they study.
